Hosted by CCO, the Chaplaincy, and the Canadian Catholic Students' Association, spent Friday evening with our Lord in prayer at Nightfever Halifax at St. Mary's Basilica.
Nightfever is an event that started in Germany after World Youth Day in 2005. A downtown Church is opened up for prayer and Adoration, and people from the street are given a candle and invited to come in and light their candle and say a few prayers, or stay all evening if they like. This is a great opportunity to spend a evening in prayer with other young people from the Diocese, but it is also a great way to share your faith with the city of Halifax.
In keeping with his commitment in the August 15th Follow-up to the Pentecost Pastoral Letter, Archbishop Mancini has begun to visit parishes throughout the Archdiocese. In December he visited St. Rose of Lima in Fall River and St. Joseph's in Bridgewater, and in January he visited Sacré Coeur in Saulnierville and St. Peter's in Dartmouth. The Archbishop expresses the purpose of his visits this way: "I want to be with the people on an ordinary Sunday with no other agenda than to celebrate Eucharist and visit with them."

Archbishop Mancini's Pentecost Pastoral letter challenged us to be true, active and committed disciples of Christ, to propose the mission of proclaiming the Gospel again, as if for the first time.
In September 2011, parish representatives gathered with their episcopal vicar in each of the six regions to explore the Pentecost Pastoral Letter together and returned to their parishes to continue the process. Regional councils will be formed under the leadership of the episcopal vicars in March.
This year your contributions to assist in the work of New Evangelization have exceeded $335,000. These funds will assist all of us in presenting the Good News of Jesus Christ more effectively with a number of new initiatives, including a diversity of diocesan gatherings. Your contribution will help our church reach out to young people and young families in new ways as we prepare for a new approach to faith formation. We will also develop new ways to engage adult Catholics in their faith communities and in living out their faith at home and at work. Our new approach to the Diocesan Appeal means parishes receive a direct share in the results of the campaign with over $63,000 going back to support parish needs.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the 2011 Archdiocesan Annual Appeal!
