The coolest part about this year's theme is that it is the Pope's idea. This Scripture verse, taken from St. Paul's Letter to the Colossians, is the same theme that will be used for the over one million youth pilgrims heading to World Youth Day in Madrid, Spain. Wth the Holy Father offering this verse to the universal Church and with millions of young people all over the world living it out we can quickly see that this theme is about more than our conference. It tells us about life in Christ.
As Steubenville Atlantic celebrates five years of proposing Jesus Christ in Atlantic Canada our hope is that this theme helps us all to recognize that Christianity is more than a weekend. As Pope said in his encyclical Deus Caritas Est (God is Love): Being Christian is not the result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but the encounter with an event, a person, which gives life a new horizon and a decisive direction.
